1. Translate into Russian.

It was twenty to six. Most of the shops had just closed.

I went to the box office at lunch-time, but they had already sold all the tickets.

By 1960 most of Britain’s old colonies had become independent.

 

 

2. Underling the verb to be translated in the Past Perfect Tense.

3. Underline the Past Perfect and explain the use of it.

1. He arrived at the station, took a taxi and drove to the hotel where he had reserved a room. He unpacked his things and wanted to go to the restaurant, but he remembered that he had promised his wife to wire to her on his arrival in Moscow. So he went to the telegraph office and sent her a telegram.

 

2. He came home late in the evening. He had visited the Museum of Fine Arts and had been to a concert. He had supper, read the newspaper and, feeling tired, went to bed.

 

3. I felt really tired when I took the train to work yesterday because Sarah and I had been to a party the evening before. We hadn’t gone to bed until after one. I hadn’t been on the train long when I had a bit of a shock. I suddenly realized that I’d left my wallet at home. Then I began to wonder. Had I left it in the office the day before? I just couldn’t remember. I wanted to go back to bed. I felt awful.
